A few days ago I put a picture of five baby robins on the forum only to come home today and find the nest on the floor and all the chicks gone. We thought we saw a sparrowhawk yesterday flying round so can only conclude that it is the culprit or some other big bird. That's life as they say :(

Oh what a crying shame, and no wonder you are worse than gutted.
Doggie's right though, there will be many more sad tales in the next few months.

I'm so sorry to hear your news, you get all excited, have something to look forwards to after a days work and then this happens.

If only I could be free as the birds the places I could visit would be out of this world
Not sure about Sparrowhawk. Could be anything, most likely cats, dogs, squirrels as well as birds. .
A sad loss none the less.
That is a shame :( Unlikely to be a Sparrowhawk, nest predation isn't really their thing. Robins have two or three broods in a year so they have time to try again.

Thank you all for your replies. I went out for a closer look and found all the chicks on the shed roof so I presume it was a cat. The thing that suprised me that next to the chicks was cooked chicken now I can only think that the cat tried to eat a chick and was sick sorry to those with delicate stomachs but want to tell how it is so someone can give any ideas and the next thing is would it be wise to put chicken wire on the length of the shed so cats cant climb down onto the nest or am I wasting my time . Grateful for any ideas
