Apparently the cardboard itself is water resistant :-S There is some cardboard water resistant techonology! Learn something new everyday!
I'm looking on Google and a lot of places have them, no idea just how good they would be for the birds to nest in though as weather resistant doesn't mean weather proof...maybe if you only got a little rain it would be okay but a summer like the last one I think the weather resistance would soon give in!
So can it withstand strong gusts of wind, heavy rain, fluctuating temperatures? Doubt it. probably end up killing large numbers of chicks as people are just not thinking things through. Cold weather- No insulation ect for a start....
I think these things originated across the pond...I certainly wouldn't want to chance using one up here!
But you can buy an actual bird box for about the same price as a cardboard one so it doesn't even make any sense to buy one that will need to be thrown out at the end of the year! Not to mention it can sometimes take a couple of years for a box to be used so you could buy one decent box that can last a number of years for less than the cost of replacing cardboard ones.
i do not bother buying nestboxes i make my own some i have made by hollowing out logs
