Hi everyone
just had to share my excitement with you, because I cant contain myself LOL. My camera nestbox has had a pair of house sparrows, they filled it to the brim with nesting material, but I did manage to see 2 eggs a few days ago. Today, theres a newborn chick and 1 slowly hatching, theres also a 3rd egg there. This is the first time we have had a nest in the camera box.
Its fascinating to see the parents taking it in turns sharing the incubation and also feeding too. My girls 7 and 13 are so chuffed coming home from school today to find out theres a chick in the nestbox. Only thing is now I cant take my eyes off the tv screen for long.
becky
I am so pleased for you becky, bet that puts housework on the back burner - I know it would with me and it must be wonderous for the two girls.

Hi JudiM
Yes the girls are so excited, they love the birds as much as I do, And yes your right I havent had much housework done today LOL, but who cares hey lol, when there are important things like baby sparrows :)
Oi!!!!!!!! Back to the sink :)
Thats great news Bekky and lovely that the girls are intersted too.
I too mine to the Dawn Chorus walk in Afan Argoed on Sunday, their face's getting up at 4.30 were priceless
It's both what you do and the way that you do it!

Hi Bekky
That's good news! It must be great to watch it all happening in your own nest box.

LOL mpiekp, luckily I had already done most of todays housework before I switched my tv on to check the nestbox, then after that I hardly took my eyes off the screen for 2 hours :)

Hi woodpecker, yes its great but very addictive :)
I have taken some pics of my tv screen, they are not great quality but I will try to put 1 or 2 of the better ones on.
Newly hatched chick and 2 more eggs :) (can only just make it out)
Can just see its little beak wide open :)

Yeah some nice birds around, although they had a stand in volunteer for the birds that couldn't ID a blackcap....
The girls were knackered by the end, it was a two hour walk, along the blue then brown routes, only about 10 people showed up and that include us three, the volunteer and the ranger. They've had open air productions on at tamaen , that only got about 10 to attend, its a shame really as it's only really used for mountain bikers now.
It would be lovely to see more turn up, especially younger people, and with children would be even better.
Oh thats a shame, maybe I will make an effort next time. But I think my 2 girs would really struggle getting up at that time, and me too.....I am limited what I can do and where I can go, unless my gran is in hospital. When shes home im on call 24/7, im her only carer. But I will consider it if it happens again, and the girls do love wildlife :)
