Hi All
Last year I left a blackbird nesting box on table in the shed. A pair of robins came in through the window and filled the box up with leaves and built a nest at the back.
This year I put the nest box on a top shelf out of the way so we could continue to use the shed. The robins have built another nest in the box and 4 baby robins hatched out about a week ago. I am thrilled to be able to see their progress. The parents follow me around when I'm digging in the garden.
Super story Primrose. When I was a kid a pair nested in my grandparents rear porch. Great to watch them grow and fledge. Andrew

Any pictures of the robins?

That's brilliant do keep us posted and if there are any pics that would be great, well done little robins
If only I could be free as the birds the places I could visit would be out of this world
Thanks all for replies. I will try to get pics of robins. I was a bit worried as the shed becomes very hot with this lovely weather - the babies looked hot with beaks open. I now open door and window wide during day and they've looked better.
Hi Primrose
Great story but do be carefull with windows and doors as cats may get in the shed.
The baby birds open their mouths for feeding. any vibration ie you entering the shed will cause them to open their beaks,

Here is one of our lovely robins, the other 3 are hiding underneath. Thanks Ray for your warning. We are fairly cat free here thanks to 2 noisy cocker spaniels but you can't be too careful.
They are georgious wont be long before they are hopping about
Oh Primrose that is fantastic, just look at all the hard work gone into making the nest Primrose you lucky spud

The robins have flown the nest. Sometime yesterday I found the nest empty except for one unhatched egg. I can see the parents taking food into a thick hedge at the bottom of the garden and I glimpsed one of the baby robins. I am lucky to see what is happening from the house with binoculars.
I was really surprised today to see the female robin back in the shed cleaning out the nest and bringing in more nesting material to line it. I did know that the female has a second brood while the male feeds the first family but was surprised it was so soon and using the same nest.
We have a somewhat wild garden where we have fenced off an area (dog free) which is fairly safe for young birds. Fortunately the baby robins have flown into this area.
