I have put a row of seven RSPB bird boxes up behind a long paddock timber clad building, they are 12 feet apart.
Is this alright or are they wrongly placed?
Hi Dennis
I would say they are too close especially if they are all the same type of box,
I always think about 40to 60 foot apart. sure someone will know, but birds need a territory

Hi Dennis and welcome.
I think it depends on the birds, sparrows like nesting in colonies so you may get them.
I have had bluetits nest in boxes 12 ft apart.
You could always just leave them there this year and see what happens and then if no joy think about re-siting them for next year?
Rachel
It's not always easy to hug a hedgehog.
But that doesn't mean you shouldn't.
Hello Rachel,
Thank you for your information about my bird box postioning.
We do not have sparrows because we live well out of town, we do have dunnocks and many, many other breeds.
Think I will leave them where they are for now and see what happens.
Thanks again.
Dennis
Hi Ray,
Thank you for your reply to my question.
I take your point about birds needing territory so will keep an eye on activity. As nesting has started I will wait and see, then reposition next year.
