Just an update on my bee! I have now become used to my new tenant, and watch her with amazement. The blue tits have stopped trying to get into the bird box, and the bee rules the nest! I have to give her credit. She is so busy rearranging her nest, fussing and buzzing about. Does anyone know when the eggs start hatching? Not that I've seen any, but they must be buried under all this nesting material.
Hi Lizzie
You are lucky having a camera in the box, you will have a rare look into the life of bumble bees.
Are you recording any of the action.
Couldn't say how long before the first workers will appear but shouldn't be too long.

Hi Ray,
Although I have no recording equipment as such for the box, I have my camera next to it and I have been able to record some of the bee's activities, which consist mostly of pulling the bits of the nest about and looking very busy. It comes out quite often and leaves the nest, then it comes back with thick pollen on its legs. My father was a beekeeper (for honeybees, obviously) and I remember I spent most of my childhood keeping out of their way, which wasn't always possible. Outch! However, I know very little about bumblebees, and I'm quite excited that I have them as tenants.
I'll have to look out now for when they hatch! That means I won't get much else done .......
