Love is in the air as Valentine's day approaches. Birds will soon start to pair up and start thinking about finding somewhere to nest. Interestingly enough, the 14th of February is not only a day for giving flowers and chocolates to your loved one, but it is also National Nest Box Week, which is organised each year by the BTO. Their website gives plenty of helpful tips and advice.Putting up a nest box is one of many ways to attract birds into your garden, so why not get involved and join in on National Nest Box Week and treat your birds to a new abode! Why not let is know about your nest box success stories.Claire
It's day 2 of National Nest Box Week already and birds are certainly beginning to check out nestboxes. Don't forget to post your nestbox stories, be they good or bad!

I WILL get my nest boxes put up this weekend!!!! Really need to get them put up before it is far too late, loads of blue and great tits hunting around at the moment so I'm sure they'd welcome a new home choice!

Mine are up and occupied!!!!!!!!! I have two blue tit lodgers using them for roosting. Both boxes have cameras linked to my computer, and I am enjoying watching their antics.I just hope they bring their mates and produce some chicks this year.

Thank you for your reminder MrsT
Must get our boxes repaired, and put up sooner than later

Hi Mrs T
We desperately want to put up our nest box and indeed we have purchased a camera to film the birds when they decide to take up residencee. However despite joining the RSPB in January we are still awaiting the promised nestbox ! We have been advised that the mailing house has had "issues" and that the box will be dispatched shortly but not received to date. Come on RSPB - get those boxes dispatched! :-)

+1, although we joined more recently... still had the same letter so I am not expecting ours anytime soon... letters like those generally mean a long, long wait... pity as we selected the nestbox option so that we could get one up in time...

Thank you for your assistance Claire. I suspect the birds will make out of this delay anyway and we will probably purchase one in the next few days so the lucky little ones will have 2 homes to choose from!
Hi Fi
Apologies for the delay, please have a read of the info i have posted on the thread here which explains the delay in sending out the membership packs, it should give you some answers!
Providing a few nesting boxes is a great idea, you may be able to attract a range of species to raise their families in your garden if you provide the right boxes in the right places.
