Hi
I have been thinking about putting up abox for hopefully a barn owl, we do have them about and an old barn was converted reacently hence the loss of one nest which was used year in year out but the planners dont seem to care, i have put up a nesting ledge in an hay loft which i own but the owls have yet to find or take interest in this perhaps this is due to the small access aproxx 12 inches sqaure, any how i was considering putting one on a pole or something but is it already too late this year?
I think i just live in hope?, Shawry
Hello
I would not worry too much about the size of the opening, the birds have probably already noticed this. I know to 2 Nesting pairs near to me and 1 pair is using a site with an entrance diameter of about 7inch.
It is certainly not to late for these birds they can delay breeding. until as late as July.

Hi Shawry
I don't think it's too late, and in any case there is nothing to be lost by trying it.
The RSPB web-site offers some good advice on owl nestboxes
Best wishes Chris
