With the fast approaching nesting time coming up, what will you be putting out for the birds to assist in this activity.
Bespoke calenders & videos on request. Orders for 2012 now being taken. See my work at www.youtube.com/richardclaxtoncni
Hi Justal
I have been watching blue tits starting to explore possible nesting site for about a week now, so I would put this out any time over the next few weeks, I have seen small birds start building nest in mid February BeB upto September
Best wishes Richard
Hi all,
Like lots of people here we've found dog/cat/rabbit fur & also human hair in old bird nests. Several years back my mum had something come packed in mauve soft padding; just to see what happened she put it out for thr birds....when she emptied her nestbox the next year one family had had a very pretty nest!
We had to laugh at one blackbird a couple of years back; clearly a new mum, she spent one afternoon trying to fix the film lid from a microwave meal to her nest. When it rained hard later, we thought maybe she wasn't so daft after all!
Greyhounds don't moult, they told us...ours fills a fatball feeder several times over every spring. To judge from the activity around it (though not yet this year!) peach-coloured fluff is the thing to have in your nest!
This Goldie recommends cobwebs.
Lichens , leaves and hair for Long-tailed Tits.

Fabulous photos, G, love the LTTs. What a superb structure their nest is, all that work! Would win the Turner Prize for me!
Think I shall groom our bunny today as her fur is lovely for nesting material.
It's not always easy to hug a hedgehog.
But that doesn't mean you shouldn't.
