Has anyone tried Terrecotta nesting pots? (link - http://birdfood.co.uk/product_details.php?area_id=2&group_id=19&nav_id=40&prd_id=1757) They look pretty nice and I think they'd look good along the fence but would the birds use them?

Cannot say ive used pupose made terracotta nesting pots but i have several around the garden made from old clay drain pipes just bore a hole in the side make a round bung for base(held in place with screws) and removable bung for top drill a hole opposite entrance hole this is used to attach to post or tree these look quite effective and pleasing to the eye around the garden just ensure access hole is not too far from base as chicks need to be able to get out.
if you are artistic you can even paint them

Hi katTai
The local pipeworks made some in the same shape as a square nest box with a lift off roof
I had bluetits in mine the first year . the thing you have to watch is they crack easy if you overtighten the screws

They do seem quite popular with blue tits etc, but you'd need a good place to put them up - on brickwall is fine but it needs to be sheltered etc.... also, the pot itself and the bricks can crack if you aren't careful!
'Dip a dee dah, dip a dee ay, we're not seeing any birds to-day...'
I have been using clay pipes(old land drain pipes found in fields) for about 10 years never had a single one crack yet and seen lots of happy chicks leave year in year out must admit some tools needed to drill holes might be classed as specialist but any handy person could carry out the task( might even try lining some up this year think sparrow terrace)
