**UPDATE** - Unfortunately the little babies didn't make it through the night - thanks for your suggestions tho.
Hi
At work we have 2 wall mounted metal ashtrays by the front doors - and blue tit's have nested in one of them and sucessfully hatched 5 or so babies!!
Problem is the position of the ashtray - its in direct sunlight for the majority of the day and is extreamly hot to touch.
Has anyone got any suggestions on ways I can cool the box down or make something to try to shade the box?
Thanks in advance!
Hi babybirdie
What enterprising blue tits you have there.
It will depend on which direction the ashtray faces, but you could probably make a sort of temporary cover from cardboard and attach it to one side or above it with a long rubber band or something similar, just to shade it from the full force of the sun between 12 noon and 2.30pm. It might work.
Best wishes Chris

Good idea of woodpeckers. I would also put a little sign on " Birds Nesting, no cigarettes please " because there will always be one idiot who doesn't look.

Thanks JudiM - I have put a sign up already, as soon as I noticed them flying in and out! Just worried about that metal ashtray cooking them - for want of a better phrase - as its even too hot to touch so it must be a little oven inside!
Hi Woodpecker
The nest on a South Facing wall so gets the sun pretty much all day and with this hot weather that we are all loving, its turning their nest into an oven!!
I'll have a go at creating a Birdie Sun Shade!!! Thanks for the idea!!
