HiWe were delighted to have Blue Tits nesting in our box for the first time and watched the activity with great interest, this stopped yesterday and when we peeked in the box we were devastated to find 7 dead chicks. It was very wet in there would they have drowned? We feel so sorry about the parents is that it now or will they try again? Many thanksLesley
Hi Lesley, welcome to the forum.
Thats really sad news!! It is a posibility that they drowned but I am thinkng they proberbly got to cold being in water all the time. Your gunna have to defo change your nest box as their must be a leak in there before u let anybody else take up residence as you dont want this to happen again.
No i would not say thats it, as it is still earl in the season they will probs have another brood but unfortunately I wouldnt count on it being in ur nest box, after all one bad experience at a resturant is enough to put u off for life, let alne if ur family get killed there!!
Dont forget you have to change ur nest box to prevent this happening again!!

Hello Lesley and welcome to the forum.
I agree with Owain. You will have to remove that box and find out how water is getting in. You wouldn't want to risk the same thing happening again. The chicks would not be able to survive, being so wet and cold.
Hi Owain & Brenda
Thanks for quick replies, just about to remove the box and have printed off the spec from the site to make a new one.
Thanks for your help.
