Hi All, just thought I would share this with you. If your dog is molting keep the fur and put it in a peanut feeder and the little birds take it for lining their nest , the bluetits in our garden love it.
Hiya,
I collect sheeps wool from fences around where I live and put it in one of the square suet holders that you can hang up. I also put clumps of dried moss in there too - blue tits love it and its quite funny watching them tugging away at a strand of wood!

Hi
I have a little basket with combings fron a Newfoundland dog.Have not seen any takers though!
It's not always easy to hug a hedgehog.
But that doesn't mean you shouldn't.
They love the fluff from my tunble dryer too. Especially the Jackdaws

My son has two japanese akita's and they have what is called a 'blow' twice a year - thearetically! The amount of fur that comes from one of these is enough to fill a king size duvet!
Over the past six years I have put this 'fur' into old containers that little beaks can get to including old peanut feeders.
However, this year I noticed a pair of ravens unusually hovering about on the roof & fence. I watched them for a while to see what they were up to. Anyway it turns out that they have been attacking the peanut feeder containing the dog's fur. They stripped the outer layer to get to the middle, where the took a huge beakful them flew off to a neighbours chimney to continue stripping this fur, perhaps thinking it was a dead mammal?
They were not nesting on this chimney as they flew off after a few minutes & I've continued to watch them, but no, not nesting. Any suggestions on this?
On the brighter side, the sparrows, blue tits, great tits & wrens have managed to enjoy the same nesting material that the Ravens left behind.
Its great watching a bundle of fur bouncing along the ground or fence with no obvious signs of whose holding it, until it flies off that is.
This is a favourite time of year for me, watching the world wake up from a long hard winter. Especially the birds. They really put a song in my heart as well as on the dawn air.
Hi Patricia,
when I gave Bobby my Westie a hair cut recently I collected the hair and put it into a Nuttery feeder which I'd taken the middle out so I'd just got the cage.
The Sparrows went at it like there was no tomorrow! In the end they worked as a team where one would pull it out and drop it down to the others :o)
Hi Patricia - welcome to the forum. I always remove loose hair from my dog whilst out walking in the morning and tuck it in the hedge for the small birds to use. At home there always seems to be a trail of it just outside the patio doors and you get some lovely close up shots of the birds coming in to collect it all.
