Didn't know where else to put this (in a rush too I must admit).
The House Sparrow colony and the Blue Tits are starting to build their nests here and have discovered the nuttery feeder I filed with Bobby's hair after I cut it. They've taken most of it already today - they've have some nice cosy nests!
Here are two quick photos I managed this morning, they're not the best mind:
Thank you for your comments everyone :o)
I'm only just getting back as I was working till 11pm last night so didn't feel like the computer when I got home!
Linda - the Nuttery feeder was never a great success to begin with, you know skeptical these Sparrows can be! I removed the seed holding part and will now just use it for putting hair in...which I'm sure Bobby will be glad to hear, LOL!
Hair does seem to be the birds favourite it seems from all the replies and I expect it does make for a nice warm nest, which if the papers are to be believed, will come in handy when.if we get that cold snap.
Speaking of hanging baskets, we've never had the birds taking the moss or lining from them. But we did have a Wren who used to nest in one of our hanging baskets every year without fail. They used to burrow into it so it and to do it every year it must have been perfect for them.
This morning the Sparrows are giving a perfect example of teamwork, rather than them all crowding on the feeder to get the fur one of them is on there pulling it out while 5 wait on the floor and catch it as it falls down. Genius! :o)
Rather sceptically put some tumble dryer fluff out on the borders last night and straight down this morning was the jackdaw with the whole lot stuffed in his beak. Tried to get a photo but he was too quick
Of all creatures, man is the most detestable, he is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain. ~ Mark Twain
Inspired by Paul and everyone else's successes with dog hair and similar, I collected quite a bit of fluff from a new piece of vet bedding we bought for the dogs, separated it into manageable pieces and put it in a flower pot. (my dogs have short spikey fur, so no good). Almost immediately it was spotted by the sparrows and they descended on it like greased lightening. I was very surprised to see it was the males who did this. The little ladies were watching from the privet bush. I only managed a quick photo, not a very good one.
Cheers, Linda.

I love that photo Sparrow. I’ve sat for ages watching my birds taking hair from my hangers but the moment I pick up a camera they all disappear.
Build it and they will come.
Well caught there Linda :o)
I hope you don't brush the dogs' bed too much, they'll be left with nothing LOL!
Actually now that you mention it, it has been the males here that have done most of the material gathering. There are some clever ladies in these Sparrow colonies! :o)
What great pictures.
I put out coloured wool with dog hair and sheep wool
It's great to see the different colours in the nests.
Way better that I can take Sparrow !!
I like that one
Cheers
