Didn't know where else to put this (in a rush too I must admit).
The House Sparrow colony and the Blue Tits are starting to build their nests here and have discovered the nuttery feeder I filed with Bobby's hair after I cut it. They've taken most of it already today - they've have some nice cosy nests!
Here are two quick photos I managed this morning, they're not the best mind:
I’ve been doing the same with my dog’s hair (have a look at the thread “Nesting box material”). I’ve been watching them take the hair through the window but every time I get my camera they’ve all disappeared. Well done for capturing them on camera. Mine have been working because I’ve filled my two (old peanut feeders) up three times so far.
I do like your holder, I'll have to look out for one like that.
Build it and they will come.
Hi Paul,
Totally brilliant photos Paul, and great captures. Bobby had better watch out in case they decide to do without the middle man and go straight to the source!! The nests will certainly be very cosy.
Just a quick question. Do you use the nuttery feeder for seed, and do the birds use it? I ask because it is identical to mine that the sparrows used all the time to eat from, sit in, sleep in. I think they are wonderful feeders, however, this is the feeder the sparrows boycotted during the winter and are still boycotting it, despite it being on the edge of the conifer and easy to access. I used to fill it to the top every day but now just put a bit in, which usually ends up going soggy as it is not eaten..
Cheers, Linda.

Wonderful! It's great to see them using the fur, how cosy they will be in their nests. :-)

Bet poor Bobby runs away when he sees it empty !! Someone's going to have a lovely cosy nest.My friend runs a dog grooming business, so I think I will recycle her waste.

Lovely pictures Paul. Not sure Bramble would be keen to see me approaching with the clippers. Good idea though and nice feeder.
The Sparrows and Starling have been reaping the benefits of the feather plucked out of the doves though so they are getting busy here too.
Thanks for making the time to share

I've learned that I still have a lot to learn...

Brilliant Paul. I have had to buy nesting material and although the birds are using it, they are still raiding my hanging baskets and door mat.
LOL@ The bald doormat!
That made me chuckle
Cheers

Hi Paul
Brilliant set up for nest material.
Just to see the Blue tit and the Sparrow having a tug of war is great fun.
The dog hair must be the in thing for nest material.
Good idea all around

Hi again Paul,
I've just remembered this photo I took 3 or 4 weeks ago of a starling with a beak full of honeysuckle. She spent a good ten minutes pulling it up through the conifer hedge, working really hard. Once she had pulled up enough of the very long stem, she stripped it of leaves. The sparrows who live in this hedge must have been watching because they have also been collecting these leaves. They are last summer's leaves, and quite dry now.
Like Brenda, my basket linings are taking a hammering and will have to be replaced. The starlings are doing a wonderful job on the front lawn of clearing up bits of twigs from my gardening efforts last weekend, and I watched a sparrow take off with a piece of course string she found.
Wonderful photos's Paul and I'm glad Bobby's hair is useful!!!
Funnily enough I've been spreading my dog's hair over bushes etc plus some wool and I had an hour's sheer delight this morning watching the bluetits pull and tug to get a size they seemed to like(?) and take away.
I do so hope they are lovely and cosy and I'm sure your birds will be!!!
