Sparrow Flats

I came across these 'Sparrow Flats' online and thought they were a good idea.  The usual Sparrow Terraces are an awkward shape for me personally as I need something to fit on a conifer, rather than the house.

Of course, that metal plating on the roof would have to come off!

    Hi Paul,

    That's a nice idea for next year. I do have a sparrow terrace on the back wall of the house, but we put the Aldi camera in the middle compartment and blocked off the other 2 holes as Bluey was roosting in the middle one and we thought he would use it to nest. I put the Aldi box higher up the wall near the eaves, but haven't noticed any activity. Once we realised Bluey wasn't going to nest we unblocked the other holes in the terrace, just in case. They aren't postioned well for me with them being on the back wall because I have to go down the garden to keep watch, and this isn't really practical. I would like one I can see from the house.

    Hi Paul, how very unusual! They aren't a bad price though. Thanks for the link, I have saved it for future reference.

    The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

    The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

    I have a standard 3 along style up the side of the house. The sparrow's often fly past laughing at it.  No takers as yet. :-(

    Your reply did make me laugh, can just imagine a cartoon show " pooy if he thinks I'm staying there with that decoration he has another think coming"
    On a more seroius note it's a very good looking alternative. My neighbour has them nesting every year under her lapping frontage above the window, she thinks they are rare finches so I'm not saying anything, she would evict them if she thought they were common sparrows !

    Paul, I quite like that design and you have me thinking of getting one, but knowing my luck, seeing the sparrows have taken a Tit box, the blue tits will probably take the sparrows box. Don't suppose it matters though..

    They not to bad, my hubby makes them the other way, across, horizontal three nest box one in middle and one at each end.

    Hi Janet,

    I have a sparrow terrace like that one on the side of the house, which has been up since last february.  But I've found it to be too far from the colony and its trees for anyone to bother with it.  The trouble with the standard ones is they're too wide for the trees, this 'sparrows flats' one looks ideal.

    Will definately be something to bookmark and buy towards the end of the year.  Too late now for this year's broods.
