This is the second or third time I have seen a blue tit show an interest in our nestbox. Luckily it's a Saturday and there was time to watch, and for BD Junior to get her camera:
The bird just went in and out. It did not have any materials for nest building so perhaps it was reconnaissance ?
Do hope he/she decides to nest !
Brilliant photos bluedolphin, I hope ours gets use this year
The BT's have been in and out of the cavity wall at work for the last week. They nested in there last year at second floor level. Dry, warm and safe from predators, what more could any BT wish for?

Sweet photos BD and good luck with the Blue Tits taking up the nesting box. We've had a few checking out the boxes since before Christmas and pecking around the entrance hole; I read it is the male that normally does this but its unclear as to the reason they do this; marking the box to say occupied ! or maybe just trying to impress the female that he is making every effort to find the correct nesting site and making the box more "natural" looking with the DIY improvements ! I love the Blue Tits, they work so hard at rearing their young so good luck and happy springtime bird watching :)

Nest box update: we now have a pair of blue tits visiting the box. It was only one before. They are still not nest building though, so don't know what is going on. Sometimes both birds go in box .
We did see a blue tit take some nesting material in the box yesterday, but it has all gone quiet again now. The box is right next to the patio, near the house, put there by the previous owners. Now my children are home for Easter I think the blue tits might decide it is a bit too busy/ noisy for them.
just carry on normal the birds know you are there
try to ignore them
the only worry I would have is cats
the box is a bit too close to the top of the fence but the tits will take all this into consideration
Good luck Ray

Ray, you were so right about cats! As I said before, we did not site the nest box, it was there when we moved in. The blue tits have taken some material inside but I don't think they have finished or laid eggs. I hope not anyway. Yesterday there was a cat sitting on top of the nest box/fence, leaning over with its paw in the nest box hole!
