Hi
I am not sure of the diameter for a woodpecker nest but I have seen some wooden nest boxes with partly drilled holes to encourage natural excavation by woodpeckers.
So I think as long as the box is wooden a woodpecker will make the hole to the size it wants.

It's not always easy to hug a hedgehog.
But that doesn't mean you shouldn't.
Hi I would guess 2 inches but stuff the box with sawdust and shavings to deter starlings maybe
