It seems the birds are as confused as we are and over the last few weeks the Blue Tits and today the Great Tits have been checking out the nesting boxes. Surprisingly, these Marks & Spencer boxes we purchased last year were designed for Blue Tits as we added 25mm metal plates to the entrance (as we have Great Spotted Woodpeckers who tend to attack nest boxes). It looks as though the Great Tit could get in and out ok but I hope they don't eat too much pastry and get stuck ! Today we converted two nest boxes with 32mm metal plates so hopefully the Great Tits will find the exact entrance hole for them !!
Looks nice inside !
Nice view from the front door !

Looks like a very des res Hazy!Really sweet set of photos,I would love to put up nest boxes but have nowhere suitable due to the direction the garden faces-if we move house I'm going to take all this into consideration, lol!

See my Flickr photos here.
LOL Jayne, believe it or not these boxes were mainly put there for roosting purposes as they are facing completely the wrong way for nesting boxes ! It didn't seem to bother the GT's though. Will be interesting to see what happens this springtime.
You'll have great views/photos from your summerhouse if they do nest there Hazy!
LOL Jayne, thats for sure ! I didn't think any bird would go for the M & S boxes as they usually prefer the standard wooden boxes. They may change their mind now that we have put two GT boxes on the Oak trees .... and facing N-NE lol
But Hazy-(said in a sultry voice)- "They're not just any old nest box- they're M&S nest boxes"....
Hope you remember the ad or you'll think I've lost the plot, lol!
They are very thorough aren't they?

LOL Jayne !! yes, I remember the ad !!
@ MC, I agree, they sure are thorough, very fussy when it comes to chosing a new family home - The last family of BT's had the woodworm inspection man in just to make sure ROFL
For 'woodworm' read 'well stocked internal larder'
So true ! didn't think of that ..... sharp as a tack MC LOL
I had a first time visit to my Nest Box too by a pair of Blue Tits on Sunday. Fingers crossed that they would like to set up home and raise a family this year.
