House martin nest cup question

I am planning on ordering and putting up house martin nest cups, but how many should I get? Is the usual amount people get 3? We get a large amount around the house/estate, am I likely to get a few nesting or should I just put one up? Also thinking of trying a swift nest box at the other side of the house, although very expensive they are!!

House martins are colonnial nesters, so you would normally see several nests reasonably close to one another naturally. If you buy one or two and site them about your property this may also encourage them to 1) the artificial nest and 2) build a natural nest nearby. As the presence of such may indicate that this is a good area to breed in.
