I was out for some while this morning, and came home to find my husband very keen for me to look at Recent News on our Home Page.
It' has a clickable link to a short video showing the "changeover" when the male bluetit is in the box and the female arrives. http://www.biggonline.co.uk/
Hi Eilbee
I have noted your website and will look at the breeding times of the Bluetits
Thank you for sharing
Regards
Kathy and Dave
Hi Elibee,
I struggled to make the video work and had to move the time slide manually, but I got the pictures in the end. Thank you for this.
As a point of interest, EXACTLY the same thing happened in my nest box 11 days ago. Three days later the female stopped visiting, but the male is still roosting. I suspect the female has had enough of her mate's mess and gone off to find a cleaner box!
Cheers, Linda.

Sorry, Sparrow - I can't quite understand what you mean about the "time slide" - but Malcolm has suggested that I ask you this:
What operating system do you use - eg. Windows 98, XP, Vista or 7?
What version of Windows Media Player?
Do you have the Xvid codec installed?
I use Windows XP.
I have just tried it on Windows Media Player - and it works. No problem.
The problem was it isn't my default media player, so I had to open it specially, which is fine.
It doesn't work on Quick Time.
My default video viewer is Dolby ArcSoft. This shows the still frames and when I press "play" nothing happens. When I move the "play" slide manually I can see it.

No idea!!!!!
EDIT: It now works on my default video viewer - forget what I said, it was me!!!!!
Elibee, please would you have a quick look at my short video and see what you think? The female no longer keeps it clean.

Sorry for being so long in replying. We had a similar situation in 2005, when the female cleaned up after the roosting male at first, but stopped after a while and the box became very messy. At this time two great tits were clearly still house hunting - so with a little help from Malcolm they took possession of the box. (You can read about it from April 9th onwards on our website).
I hope your two birds settle down - though I'm wondering if it's a bad sign that the female no longer keeps the box clean.
I have read your illustrated diary from April 2005. It is just like a soap opera! Brilliant. I love the way you managed to deter your rooster so the great tits could take occupation. I may well have to settle for watching the rooster, which is fascinating in itself. Thanks for the reply.

There is now an alternative way to view this - we decided to call it "Brief Encounter"!

There are now FOUR videos (no sound) - see the link In the Index on our Home Page. (I hope numbers 2-4 will soon be available on YouTube too)
Here they are!
