Hello
Just wondered if anyone knew why a blue tit nest would disappear? We have a bird box with a camera and noticed that a pair of blue tits had started to nest in the box, they were bringing in straw and moss then yesterday when we got home from work we noticed the whole box had been emptied. Does anyone know why this would happen?
The same thing happened to me and I can totally sympathise!
We have a nest-cam. The Blue tits were very active, checking out the box, and began to build- then the material all disappeared. I didn't see who was the culprit but I assumed it was the same pair who had become a bit confused. Part of the nesting ritual seems to involve chucking out stuff from inside the box. The box is empty now and no activity at all, so I assume they started a nest elsewhere.
I'm thinking about enlarging the hole to suit great tits in an attempt to have some nesting activity later in the year. I believe great tits sometimes have a second brood.
