Wow, what brilliant shots of some of the most colourful birds I've ever seen.
I'd mistakenly thought the Quetzal was the national bird of Costa Rica but when I looked it up I see it's the rather drab Clay-colored Thrush. Did you see one of those? Strange bird to choose with all those other beautiful birds.

Guatemala got there first with the Quetzal ;-) The Clay-colored Robin (or Thrush, take your pick) is really common and has a nice song which marks the start of the rainy season - I think they chose it for the song!
Going to breakfast on the first actual day of the trip we found one that had decided to live in the hotel!
They are a bit plain...
That Collared Aracari is just stunning. It strikes me like the kind of place you need to look where you were going as you would spend most of your time looking up at the birds in the trees.
Very true, what with tree roots, snakes, streams and gorges to trip over, stand on or fall into. Not to mention that if you do trip and grab hold of something it will either be covered in thorns or turn out to be an Eyelash Viper pretending to be a creeper ;-)
Wonderful photos of stunning birds, they are so colourful. The trails sound a bit adventurous.
