bird Poems/Poetry

Hi there

I thought it would be an idea to open a thread all about Bird Poetry (hope I have put it in the right area of the forum) {wink}.

It will be a nice thread to open up our thoughts by using the spoken word.

I will start with this 'quirky' short poem about time, place and birds together.

Greylag Geese

The train I'm am on speeds past ....
a mob of Greylag Geese
The train I'm on speeds past ...
spread their wings
The train I am on speeds past ...
make little runs
The train I'm on speeds past ...
are left forever
The train I'm on speeds past ...
between earth and air

  • Hi Blackbird

Lovely poem !  I thought I would include this one as it reminds me of that wonderfuldocumentary "March of the Penguins" as narrated by Morgan Freeman.

    My Father's Feet

To keep myself up off the ice,
I find my father's feet are nice.
I snuggle in his belly fluff,
And that's how I stay warm enough.
But when my father takes a walk,
My cozy world begins to rock.
He shuffles left, I hold on tight.
Oh no! He's wobbling to the right.
Not left again! Oops, here he goes.
Do you suppose my father knows
I'm hanging on to his warm toes?

    THREE LITTLE BIRDS

    beside my door step

For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.

  • One of my favourite all time songs is 'blackbird' by Paul McCartney! Was somewhat disappointed when I learnt the true meaning behind it (even if it is a noble one!!)

  • Nice Idea ref poems just shows how tallented people are.

Here goes with one of mine . let me know what you think.

     I call it BLACKBIRD

I'M AWOKE AT FOUR EACH MORNING

ABOUT THE TIME THAT DAY IS DAWNING

THE NOISE IS COMING FROM A BILL

                JUST BEYOND MY WINDOW SILL

A SOUND I HOLD VERY DEAR

A FREIND IS SINGING LOUD AND CLEAR

            XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

HIS CHILDREN SNUGGLE IN A NEST

          WARM UNDER MOTHERS BREAST

THEY KNOW IT'S SAFE WHILE HE'S AROUND

BY HEARING THAT OLD FAMILIAR SOUND

THERE'S MOUTHS TO FEED SOMEHOW SOME WAY

IT'S GOING TO BE A BUSY DAY

YET STILL HE FINDS THE TIME TO SING

BEFORE HE WORKS AND TAKES TO WING

           XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

YES MR BLACKBIRD SING YOUR SONG

THE DAYS IN FRONT ARE VERY LONG

I DON'T MIND YOU BROKE MY REST

IT'S NICE TO HEAR YOU AT YOU BEST

  • I enjoyed that Ray. It sums up just how I feel about 'my' blackbird singing at 5am on summer mornings but I couldn't put it as charmingly as you have :-))

  • Morning has broken

    Like the first morning;

    Blackbird has spoken

    Like the first bird.

    Praise for the singing!

    Praise for the morning!

    Praise them from springing

    Fresh from the Word!

    (Eleanor Farjeon)

Birds find their way into the hymn repertoire too!

          HERE'S A TALE

         ABOUT A SNAIL

WHO COUDN'T GET HIS WILLIE ART'T SHELL

SO WHEN HE HAD A WEE

HIS SHELL WOULD FILL OF PEE

COS HE COULDN'T GET HIS WILLIE ART'T  SHELL
