Return of the White Storks
Six hundred years we waited and watched
Now here in this valley the white storks are back.
Your clack-clack red arrow beaks pointed the way.
Your journey is made and we hope you will stay.
Balanced on treetops with higgledy sticks.
Guarding their nests of open mouthed chicks.
These pioneer birds have flown and decided
That England is home again, so they have landed.
Six hundred years is a long time away.
We welcome you back and we hope you will stay.
On the Knepp Castle Estate. Let's hope they return and nest again this year.
