By The Brook

Stepping away from the birds we love for this one - but hey I love all our creatures!

My husband plays a beautiful Scherazade piano piece when I perform this one, even gives me goose-bumps!

By the Brook

Beside the babbling brook lay I

Ears cocked to hear his cry

Then I heard it, keen and long

The dog fox answer, my mating song

From yonder field beyond the glen

He answered thrice, I chose him then

For it was time

Beside the babbling brook lay we

Content within our company

He’ll not bide long, this I know

When twilight falls he will go

Whilst I retreat, below the earth

To await, the impending birth

For it is time

Beside the babbling brook they play

This eve of Midsummer’s day

 Pouncing, fighting, honing their skills

For survival is a battle of wills

A misty dawn, creeps o’er the hill

Dewdrops glisten and the land lies still

Staying strong, I ignore their cries

I have to break a mother’s ties

For it is time

Beside the babbling brook lay I

Ears cocked, to hear his cry

Then I heard it, keen and long

The dog fox answer, my mating song…

Poetry helped me emerge from my Chrysalis - but my wings are still drying - so much more to learn.
