Any more for the Skylark
I'm that speck in the sky
look down from on high
feel safe up here singing my song
there's plenty to watch
on a rural hotch potch
but the landlord is doing us wrong
He's plowing the field
and to boost up the yield
he sprays to the angst of the gulls
denudes natures foods
which in turn effects broods
strong cocktails these new chemiculls
Below there is harm
i'll skirt this large farm
and glide to that verdant green bluff
it's on a golf course
(a human resource)
but where flora's not blitzed in the rough
Leave me here i am fine
at the rear of hole nine
you "hackers" please listen, take heed
drive straight, the fairway
please do not stray
cos my last chance lies here in the weed.
Spring
Listen... pray hark
can you hear the lark?
it's spring now and he's on parade
he'll give forth his song
sometimes one hour long - to his lady - it's his serenade
Now you dont hear them much
cos there's not a big clutch
of skylarks - theyre in decline
but if stuck in the rough
and youve near had enough - just one song will make you feel fine
Cos it's on the golf course
that you may hear the source
of the wondeful lazy refrain
he'll zoom way up high
just a speck in the sky - will we ever - see him again?
Oh I hope we do hear him again. Lovely poem Percy. Hearing a skylark always reminds me of where I used to live on a hill fields to the side filled with skylark. That was back in the 80's when I go back there isn't so many :( .
Lovely poem Percy, and very factual to how birds behave.
Thank you for sharing with us here

Thanks for those Percy. I do miss hearing the Skylark as often now, as we used to hear them whenever we were in the countryside when I was little. We do hear a few, but they are now rarer, sadly.
