Turtle Dove

Turtle Dove

We saw the 

Rusty jewelled 

Pink feathered dove.

We’d heard the soft purring, 

Knowing they are shy

Scanned the tree-tops 

And just this once we saw.

Knowing they are few.

We’re unlikely to see more.

So....             

Like a dodo 

My grandchild may one day see 

A photo, 

Hear a story, paint a picture, 

But

never hear a turtle dove, never see a turtle dove. 

in the top of any tree.
