There have been various poems posted on the Loch Garten Osprey threads: here is a new one of mine, to celebrate the fledging of the first youngster on the Loch Garten nest for 2010--
FLYING IN THE WIND
The gentle morning broke as the sun put out its lissom threads of red and bronze upon the nest-
I felt that today, I was to be as one with this wind which has buffeted me strongly for days now, and bent our frail bodies to its will.
My brothers tried to move their wings against the skies, but failed to shake themselves from their anchor on the twigs crackling hard beneath our new bright talons.
I raised them, my wings, my reason for being, feeling their feathers soft but brave and powerful, and jumped up, and jumped up again...
I lifted, and felt stronger than before, pushed with my newly strengthened legs, and tried again: the greedy wind grasped me upwards, and I let it take me up, upwards and above - I was flying at last, flying so that my breath was almost taken from me in the excitement of flight for the very first time.
As I curved around the nest which had been my only home since I began, I felt with myself the oneness of my being alive, of flying at long last in Nature's true embrace - I was at Home in the world itself, and nothing could take this from me.
Lovely Lindy, as usual, and emotional at this time of departure.

Job Done
I fly to my nest for a final check
But nobody’s here, my job’s done.
A last little tidy round
Then my hero arrives.
Life partner until one of us does not return.
My mate looks so handsome,
Guarding us in snow, rain or sun.
He’ll watch over the little ones,
My job is done.
Time to make that long journey.
Thanks TerryM very poignant as we wait for our beloved family to finally start their long journey.

Hi TerryM
Beautifully written poem, and so close to the heart
Hopefully brave and bold EJ will be as fit as an Osprey can be for another year or two yet.
Regards
Kathy and Dave
Thanks Terry. Beautiful poem of our lovely EJ. .
A lovely tribute to a lovely osprey, Terry.
I truly enjoyed your prose Terry. It was a heart felt tribute to EJ.
Make sure you do it again.
It's that time of year again, and EJ the resident female at Loch Garten appears to have migrated now as she has not been sighted since Saturday last. Here is a little tribute to her, inspired by my admiration of her beautiful plumage this summer. (She certainly keeps herself in tiptop condition) :
THOSE STRONG WINGS
Those strong wings will carry youOn friendly winds to where you'll rest -Perhaps you'll stop and think of daysWhen three small chicks warmed under your breast. You mantled them, to keep awayAll threats to safety, come what may.
Those strong wings will help you fishAs ever south you travel now,Taking with you our good wishFor your safe journey, and returnFrom winter roosts where you'll keep warm.
Those special wings a shelter madeTo keep the youngsters in the shadeYou said to Odin "Can you see?""I've hatched those eggs out,Not two, but three..."
Those same wings which you widely stretchedTo protect your little ones from the rain,Then folded down ready soon to fly again -Fetching a shiny, still flapping troutTo keep the youngsters fed and grown.
Those brown strong wings we'll see againNext Spring when they lift you here back home:As you approach the scene once more ofBold Scottish lochs where you have raisedSo many young, all healthy and brave.
Au Revoir, EJ!
Beautiful Linda. You put into words, just how much she means to us.
Safe journey EJ, as I can still see and hear two of your juveniles, waiting for them to start their migration.
Lindybird lovely poem again, needless to say in my current rather emotional state it brought tears to my eyes. Such a wonderful tribute to a very beautiful EJ.
