Hi all, apologies for the poor quality photo....it was quickly taken on my phone through the kitchen window.
We had this bird drop into our garden this evening. Does anyone have any ideas what it is?
A bit of further info as the photo doesn't do the bird's colouring any justice at all: the green on the breast was almost emerald like. It had a black/deep blue tufted crest and a white flash behind the eyes.
When in flight, the bird's underwing feathers were red.
As for scale, the bird was around the size of a pigeon.
I'm pretty certain it's non-native, and has probably escaped from an aviary. The bird is quite elusive and has been living happily around my property through the last 18 months.
Any identification help would be much appreciated.
Regards,
Andy
Hi Andy, it looks like a Turaco possibly a White-cheeked Turaco. Do you live in east London? As you will read there has been one living in the wild for a number of years and visiting gardens and bird tables around the area.
