Grey Heron Beak

I photographed a Grey Heron this week and a third of it's top mandible is missing the bird seemed healthy. My question is will it grow back?

    Can't really answer the question categorically but I remember asking BTO about overgrown mandibles on a blue tit and asking "theoretically" what would happen if the beak was trimmed; the answer came back that it would continue to grow again so does that go for all species I wonder.

    Hi Hazel I'm sorry for the delay in replying I've been in sunny? Wales for a few days.

    I would like to think that it will grow back but who knows perhaps I should ask Mr Packham Baby chick
