I've seen it said that cat fur from a cat that has topical flea treatments is dangerous to put out as nesting material for birds. In the hope of putting it out in the Spring, we collected for ~6 months, but is this something we shouldn't do after all? I was wondering if the time it's been allowed to sit makes it any less dangerous.
Hi Lauren and welcome to the community ... am sorry that I can't answer your question about whether the toxicity of chemicals in cat fur disappears over time but I have seen many reports via google all saying that fur from any pet animals that have received flea treatment should not be offered to birds for nesting with! Seeing as the flea treatment is needed on a regular basis it seems evident that the chemicals must lose strength ... maybe a vet would be able to answer your question?
