Hi I have read the law bit on bird nests in the hedges so I know I cannot cut the hedge down too low.
My question is, if i trim my hedge will it effect the baby birds nesting??
We had some little blue egg shells on the ground 2 weeks ago so i know babies are in there.
But my hedges are getting so big!!
Is it ok to cut them ?
Many Thanks
Kristen
hi kris, actualy its not a good idea to cut your hedge right now as the sap has risen and you can damage the branches so they wont grow propely.
, best time is october when it dies back and trim then in february before the sap starts to rise again. also am sure you dont want to disturb your nesting birds and there will be lots of insects living in there for them to feed on. You didnt say what sort of a hedge you have but i would leave it now so you dont disturb them. Enjoy your birds. xkathx
