The Crook of Baldoon

The Crook of Baldoon in Dumfries and Galloway is an important breeding, wintering and staging site for tens of thousands of waders and wildfowl, holding as many as 10,000 Pink-footed Geese, 1,000 Barnacle Geese and around 200 Whooper Swans during the winter months. It is an important staging post for migrating Black-tailed Godwits, on their way to their Icelandic breeding grounds and displaying Redshank, Curlew and Lapwing over the wet grassland create a spectacular sight during spring. A pair of Ospreys are breeding in the area and are regularly seen fishing here.

We want to create a new RSPB reserve at the Crook, in order to safeguard the future of this important wildlife area. You can read more about this exciting project here.
