Goodbye Newcastle's Kittiwakes?

As many people will know from Springwatch, http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p007yfpf Newcastle-upon-Tyne has the furthest inland nesting site for kittiwake in the world. Now Newcastle City Council have a planning application to put up netting, angled sills and an Avishock (a device that gives birds and electric shock) to prevent them from nesting.
