As many people will know from Springwatch, http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p007yfpf Newcastle-upon-Tyne has the furthest inland nesting site for kittiwake in the world. I thought it was against the law to disturb nesting sites, sounds like the council needs reminding.
This has been on what passes for the local news channel in our bit of N.Yorks. If I remember correctly the birds nested of the nearby flour mill but either moved or were persuaded to move away from there when the flour mill became the art gallery.
There has been a blog put up about this today. It's entitled "Threat To Tyne Kittiwakes." The RSPB are objecting to the application.
I thought they were encouraged to move from the Tate North to a place of safety,to me they were more interesting than some of the exhibits in the art gallery.
