There's a disturbing article in The Guardian in the environment pages, that Red Kites have being killed in an area of Scotland where 12 Red Kites and 4 Buzzards have been found dead after being poisoned and bird experts think they are being deliberately targeted. I do hope they find who is doing this and then give them the harshest punishment possible. I don't know how to do the link from The Guardian.

What a terrible story, these people should be traced & locked up. With all the surveillance cameras everywhere surely some must have picked up the vehicles they used. The locals must have seen unknown vehicles in the area.
My thoughts are with all the people who worked on the project, they are obviously devastated.

This sort of thing seems to be happening far too often. Anything with a hooked bill and talons seems to be targeted in certain parts of the country. Very depressing but like doggie I doubt that anyone will be brought to justice.

If they do catch them, the sentences and fines are laughable and hardly a deterrent. They should be strung up (or worse!). It's despicable.

The problem is if they don't catch them and throw the book at them. It will just happen again and again. I hope a big effort is made to catch the culprits of this terrible crime and then the courts do throw the book at them very strongly.
As it has happened in Scotland I think the land/shoot owners can be held responsible as well unlike in England.Penalties will no doubt be pretty low but at least the crimes will be on the books.It may be worth a look at the Raptor Politics web pages,very biased in some ways but up to date with the reports.

We get stories like this fairly regularly here in N. Yorkshire,not on the same scale of slaughter but still bad enough.I think in the majority of cases the culprits are connected to commercial shoots and because of the nature of the terrain the chances of catching someone in the act are pretty slim.
