I have spent some time trying to get some action shots of Goldfinch in my garden. Putting out extra niger seed feeder and placing them closer to the hedge. That or luck brought in 20-30 at a time creating good action, shame about the bad light, so far.
This next one will haunt me, it is just what I looked for but the shutter speed is auto when using sports function and the light slowed it down. DOH!
Still all considered I am reasonably happy with outcome.
Only trouble was it also grabbed the attention of an old friend who just couldn't resist. Photo taken by my son Jamie!
Soz but thats nature.
John :-)
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
Hi John
Wow fabulous all action pictures once more
The Goldlfinches are too busy scrapping with one another to see the looning danger in their path.
The sparrowhawk has now got one of the Goldlfinches - sad!!
Like you say the Sparrowhawk needs to eat too.
Regards
Kathy and Dave

Hi John. Those are fantastic photos. Thanks for posting them.Paul.
Warning! This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar. Approach with extreme edginess.
John, you have captured them just as they are, colourful, active and aggressive. Shame about No. 3, but it still has that action. ( you set your own high standards )
What happened to, 'Once upon a time..................................and they all lived happy ever after.'
Your story ends, 'and Goldie was murdered and gobbled up' !!!
Seriously though, thank you.
Hi John. Those are fantastic photos, as mentioned in one of my latest posts I took over 600 photo's in one day most of which were binned due to the poor light. I'd decided that I needed to get out and about, had a great day with the Snowies and Peregrine, I took dozens of shots of the Peregrine but it was like lightening chasing after the waders. I only managed the one shot as it passed overhead.

Nature Is Amazing - Let Us Keep It That Way
Great shots, John. In some ways the wing blur just enhances the sense of action and drama.
It's supposed to be a brighter day tomorrow so perhaps you could have another go.
Thanks for sharing

Fantastic photos of those birds I get so rarely. I love the first one as you can see all the colours, it's so clear but all of them are exceptional - what a great set of photos.

Hi John, what a fantastic set of photos. Crystal clear and great action shots. Well done to your son as well for his photo. Sad to see, of course, but that is nature and these things happen - and happen for a reason.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Hi John,
Fantastic shots of beautiful birds, and you have an embryo photographer in your family - well done to Jamie.
Cheers, Linda.

other birds have to eat, but thats nature.
Hey farmer, farmer, put away the D.D.T now. Give me spots on my apples, but leave me the birds and the bees, please!
Excellent set there John!! Love the action shots and the sparrowhawk too! (well done Jamie!)
