When the first Mistle Thrush arrived in garden, it looked calm and happy. While the others squabbled over food with their own kind the Mistle Thrush sat and ate.
There was plenty of food for all but squabble they did.
I rewarded the Mistle Thrush with a treat!
Oops! now there is two of them, feathers everywhere.
Even when the obvious winner is left alone, no one is safe,
The anger is up and s/he is seeing red.
Meanwhile! someone fancies a shot at a grape.
Before you know it, the last one is gone!
If those Waxwings show up!!! This will be very costly. I had a great day at home, hope you enjoy my fruits :-)
If anyone is interested there are more photos on my Flickr site http://www.flickr.com/photos/40261931@N06
I am also putting some of my other hobby, paintings, on a new web site http://www.highlandmchale.tk
All comments welcome, please be gentle. :-)
John :-)
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
Excellent set of photos and captions. Have enjoyed looking at them :o)
Just starting to look through your Flickr photos :o)
Great pictures and ingenious idea for feeding the birds! I tried something similar at the weekend with mixed results using apples and pears on a string in a lilac bush and a pear tree. The starlings made short work of the first batch and the second attracted in a single redwing although i did hear a mistle thrush rattling away a few doors down so i'm hopeful that will make an appearance soon as well.
Anyone else got any examples of novel ways of presenting fruit for birds?

As ever, superb photos John. You really are one top photographer.
Just had a look at some of your paintings - they are exceptional (but then I should have known they would be!).
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Thanks Paul, I've checked out your Flickr and they are great, esp Sparrow Hawk (f) great shot!
Thanks also Ian and Squirrel, kind words. This new approach will cost an arm and a leg!
Haha brilliant photos! Though that thrush would stand no chance if he tried to steal my grapes!

Hi John
Sorry for the delayed answer here
Your selection of action pictures are out of this world - well done to you! {big smile}
Wow did your Thrush want to rule the roost in the food department.
Must try the grapes on the bushes/vine rthing as it does seen to work a treat.
Great for photographs and birds alike.
Regards
Kathy and Dave
Thanks KatTai and Blackbird, The Mistle Thrush is quite pushy. I am just waiting, watching and listening out for Waxwings. Hope the grape thing works for them one day, fingers crossed.
John, I tried hanging the bunch of grapes today and they were eaten so quickly by the blackbirds, ( no thrush at all) that I think I must put a smaller bunch out tomorrow !
Brenda, The Thrush was watching when I put out the grapes, when I put grapes out unseen, the Blackbirds had them all just as yours!
Hi John,
Absolute stonkers each and every photo - is all I can say!
As to your paintings - Well!..............................well.....fuffing fantastic!
