A bit tardy in posting but I have been getting to grips with the new camera, in particular the fact that the images are too large to post without some cropping or resizing (progress eh?)
Titchwell was an extremely bracing choice for starting the new year.
The walk past the lagoons was still icy in places, and the lagoons seemed rather quiet too. However the beach was anything but - the white line along the strand was gulls not spume - presumably all still feasting on the enormous wreck of starfish, razor shells and crabs
Being rubbish at waders we couldn't confirm these
although we can recognise oystercatcher, curlew, ringed plover, lapwing, redshank and brent geese all joining the gulls along the shore. We even saw a brief glimpse of water rail (no pic!) as it scurried into the reeds by the creek.
Walking back this shoveler finally did us proud after lurking in the shade for a bit
And this black tailed godwit? was feeding nonchalantly by the path
And on returning to the centre I got my Xmas present from Sandra - some new 8x42's
Good day really ;-))
hi fittmonk
Love your report and your pictures about Titchwell Marsh
Great pictures from your new camera.
Your un-ID's waders look like Knot to me.
Love your Male Shoveler picture. Great detail and very attractive to look at.
You have the right ID of the Godwit too - the Bar Tailed Godwit
Regards
Kathy and Dave
Great photos and report Fittmonk, many thanks for sharing your visit with us.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Great photos Fittmonk! Looks and sounds like you had a wonderful day! :-)
