My Albino Pigeon

We had been out Christmas shopping to a nearby town and I had my camera with me - not my little compact but the big jobby with various lenses - don't ask!!! LOL

Anyway, on the way back we stopped in our town and I happened to see this chappie/chappess:-

 Enjoy!

The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

  • Oh wow! Great pics Squirrel!! He almost looks like a ptarmigan in the first one!! lol!

I've now *got* to ask, why the big camera?? ;-)

  • Cracking pictures ;) , a couple of years ago we found a baby pigeon, i know every1 says you carn't pick them up , and 'it will die' or 'the parents will look after it' but i had to intervine..... It had no feathers and was gingery in color, but after feed it with cheese and mashed potoato he was fine. Growing rapidly soon had to take him outside to feed on worms while i was digging he helped himself. But after a few weeks with a full body of feathers he started to sleep in the tree in our garden at night  and i went out in the morning he would come straight to me and do 'there dance' i thought it was so funny but also new it was time to let him go ! We called him ginger and i do think he has now got a mate and comes in our garden most of the time but as you know they all look the same so im not sure, hope i didn't bore anyone with this but had to share ;) .

P.S. sry no pictures were taken :( a BIG mistake but overwelmed at the time...

If it aint broken, dont fix it !.... all good things come to those who wait !

  • Squirrel,

Great pictures. He/she looks to be very purposeful walking towards you in the next to last picture. Maybe he liked your "big jobby".!!!!!!!

It is the only albino pigeon I have seen.

    Neil,

I love your story, and well done for rearing him successfully. I'm sure he is one of your garden regulars.

    Cheers, Linda.

    Squirrel,

I think it is a fantail, these are white fanciers pigeons that have a fan shaped tail. Maybe his tail feathers have moulted & not grown through. They sometimes become lost on races & then breed with ferral pigeons. Maybe it could be a crossbreed hence the lacking fan tail. He is a very friendly pigeon anyway, they are not like that in my town.

Why on earth do you go shopping with your camera lol ? HMMMMMM is squirrel shopping for eye candy I wonder ?????

Well done Neil, sorry I forgot to add it on.

That dance they do is a randy mating ritual, he loved you in other ways other than general gratefulness. :-/
