Decided to take the dog out to Forfar Loch today and took my camera along with me too. The most noteable sighting was a kingfisher that dashed passed us on the south side of the loch! It was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it sighting! Also saw (not surprisingly) plenty of mallards, had a whole load of them following me along the path. They must have thought I had something for them but I didn't, black-headed gulls, coots, moorhen, goosander, tufted ducks, graylag geese, grey heron, buzzard, blue tits, robin, dunnock, crow, bullfinch, greenfich, chaffinch, goldfinch, blackbird, redwing and a couple of rabbits that the dog was quick to go racing after!

Nice one KatTai, looks like a good day. I've not stopped there yet, may have to stop next passing.
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.

It's a nice walk, there are usually a couple of magpies there but I never saw them today :-( I was disappointed because I like seeing them! I've never seen one where I live even though it's not far from Forfar!
Excellent set of pics Kat and what a superb lot of birds you saw! I 'intended' on visiting that loch back in May but it was a particularly wet day (mind you I had a full week of sun bar that day so can't complain) so opted for Kinnordy with hides instead!!

Superb photos Kat Tai. I love the reflections in the "water" shots - and what lovely weather you had.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

Yeah, the water was so still! Unfortunately though the birds weren't lol. The weather was lovely, if a bit nippy! That was why I headed out, it was such a nice day I wanted to go somewhere a bit different!
MarJus - I'm sure you'd have had just as much fun at Kinnordy as you would have had at Forfar Loch ;-)
Hi, lovely shots - my favourite is the robin - looks like a nice place to visit.

KatTai, lovely set of photographs illustrating what looked to be an idyllic walk.
Hi KatTai
Great set of pics there - it looks like a good place for a walk. There are many reports and photos of places in Scotland on this forum and they all look wonderful. I must head north one of these days.
There is something new to learn everyday...

Super report and a lovely set of pictures to go with your informative report.
Super pictures of the Female Bullfinch.
I used to live at Montrose and have been to Forfar Loch a few times in the past. So Dave and I are familar with the area you have mentioned.
Brings a few memories back {smile}
I remember there was a lot of Greylag Geese with the odd Pink Foot (thinking it was a Greylag Goose), and they loved to be fed.
