Hi All,
Bramble and I decided to meet up for a visit to Barnes over the weekend. We chose Sunday as I wanted to watch a couple of rugby games on Saturday.
Blimey was it hot!Whilst we were walking around in the heat most of the birds were resting in the shade. And they call us an intelligent species!
I think we must have seen close on 70 species by the end of the day. A few Dragons, a few Butterflies and the odd Grey Squirrel....Plenty of Snipe, a couple of Common Sandpipers and a Stonechat were the highlights.
When we stopped for lunch I was pleased to see that carrot cake was again on the menu, but that the slices were a lot smaller than before! Hmm.
Surprisingly, there weren't too many people about even though it was a Sunday. All gone down to the seaside I guess :)
But the heat was too much despite some cool breezes in the Hides and we called it a day.It was a pleasure and a delight to meet Sarah and hope to do it again!
Some photos of the day....
Blue-winged Teal
Bufflehead
Patagonian Teal
Red-breasted Goose
Ringed Teal
White-headed Duck
Wigeon
Wood Duck
A lovely day, albeit a record-breaking one for the heat.....
Best wishes, Graham

Well Graham, as expected your pictures put mine to shame, but I'll add them anyway for prosperity as it were. It was a really nice day although sunburn is not something you expect in October. It was nice to put a face to a name and share a trip in such knowledgeable company.
I was delighted to get glimpses of several new species for me, especially the Common Sandpiper, even if i did think it was a wagtail when i first saw it flit from one island to another (In my defense I had not binoculars).
Widgeon
Moorhen
Manky Mallard
Missed the Swan really, but liked the Ripples

Glad you both had a good day out in one of my favourite places! Lovely photos! I was there on Saturday with a friend, and it was really hot then, too!
Looks like an excellent day out albeit rather a warm one! You don't expect to need sun cream in October.

It's a shame we missed you Keeta. It is a great place to visit although on both occasions I have been it's been really hot. Must aim for a cold day next time.
