B&B on Mull without single supplement!!

Planning to go May next year. Have been trawling the tourist info & other sites with B&B info. So far, not been able to find many that don't charge a lot more (in some cases, double) for staying as a single!! As one of the best ways to find places is 'word of mouth', I thought maybe someone may be able to help!!

By the way, can recommend excellent and reasonably priced B&Bs in Skye and near Pitlochry!! :-)

  • No luck with this yet MarJus? Noticed no reply so have bumped this back to the top of the list!

  • Thanks very much Cartimandua! Thought it would be a bit cheeky if I did it!! ;-) I'm still looking so hopefully will find one soon!

  • Well I've finally booked one! It's not without a single supplement, but has only a modest one so I'm happy with that (£30 per night with en-suite)! Have booked the last week in May 2010 so will report back as to what it's like!! It's in Lochdon which is reputed to be the birdwatcher's capital in Mull!! Can't wait!! :-)

  • Good stuff - don't forget to pack your camera will you ☺

The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

  • Hurrah!

Perhaps we should start a thread of 'good b&bs for wildlife watching trips' with recommendations from users :-)

Have a great trip - I'm very jealous!

  • Hope you have a great time it looks a fantastic place.

We are planning a trip to Mull for a combined wildlife / distillery trip (Probably the year after next, so quite a while yet), as it will only be brief we plan to stay in Oban and catch the ferry for a day trip on Mull, will probably do one of the guided tours as I'm sure it will increase our chances if we are with somebody who knows where all the best sites are, there are several people on the island that run these trips and I think most have a link from this site if you are interested:-

Will be looking for B & B elsewhere in the highlands so would appreciate information re Pitlochry.

    Thanks

With pleasure! I cannot recommend this highly enough!! I stayed at the 'Balbeagan' http://www.balbeagan.com/ with Ann & Paul. It's in the small hamlet of Balnaguard just a few miles from Pitlochry. There are hares & oyestercatchers in the surrounding fields as well as many other birds, and deer can be seen along the road!

The rooms are very comfortable with everything you might need and more! The breakfasts are *out of this world*! Have stayed in quite a few B&Bs but never had anything quite like it!!! There is an extensive menu and the servings are ample! That's besides fresh fruit salads, fruit, yoghurt, toast, cereal and just about anything you can think of!! Paul & Ann are also very interested in wildlife / birds so can point you to good locations! Best of all, it was £175 for the week! :-)

  • Thanks Marjus

Have had a look at the website, I like the idea of adding a picture of the breakfast, I'm a big fan of the Full English, Full Scottish, Ulster Fry..........call it what you like, it will keep you going for most of the day.

Have added this to list of places to look at when booking.
