Middleton Lakes - fancy a sneaky preview? (27 September and 20 December 2009)

Nestled within the beautiful River Tame valley, just south of Tamworth in Staffordshire/Warwickshire, Middleton Lakes has become a new RSPB nature reserve due to open to the public in 2010. The site is being developed from a disused quarry pit into a haven for many waders, waterfowl and reedbed species.

This week is one of the first public event to take place at the site with guided bird a watching walk this sunday (27th) and again on sunday 20th December.. Be some of the first to see what will be one or our flagship midlands reserves!

  • Would love to, but busy. :-/

    When this place opens it will be my nearest full size RSPB place, my nearest place at the mo is Fineshade.

    I heard about Middleton Lakes on the RSPB Podcast and I cannot wait to have a good days visit there.

    So my next question is... roughly when will it open..?   :-)

  • Hi Lloyd

    Great news, and I love to hear all about the Reserves/New Reserves changing for the better from disused quarries.   I am sure that there will be lots of wild flowers and Fauna that will like the type of soil that quarries produce too.  Just a Wildlife haven in its own right.

    It is good that Middleton Lakes will be a ready made place for birds to nest and feed.  That is without doing any more landscaping at all, or doing very little.  Best way forward. {smile}

    Thank you for sharing here. {smile}

    Regards

    Kathy and Dave

  • ooh that's interesting! Can't make this Sunday as already have plans but will definitely look it up in the future!

    Alas we don't have any RSPB reserves in Shropshire! Luckily there are plenty of other (Shropshire Ornithological Society & Wildlife Trust) reserves

  • I'm going to keep 20th December free in my Diary, might be a very good excuse to avoid all things Christmas Shopping.!
