Carrying rubbish down gardn path, looked up, big bird being mobbed, rush indoors grab binoculars, can't see it. Steady down and look carefully, find it, not being mobbed by gulls but by 5 rooks. First sight looks like a Buzzard then it turns and a good view of the tail, it' a Red Kite. Heads inland Slightly east of Lewes and out of sight. It completely ignores the Rooks despite 2 of them being particularly persistent. In sight for about 8 minutes at approx 1000ft.
The older I get the more I know about less and less.
Brilliant! You must have been delighted to see such a magnificant bird.
Warning! This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar. Approach with extreme edginess.
HI
Fantastic creature, have red kite and buzzards over the fields at the back of my abode, seem to come from the woods that we have.

You must have been in awe seeing the red Kites. They are so beautiful - forked tail, and distinctive colouration. Lucky lucky you!
In 2003/2004 we lived in Stirling, Scotland and we where lucky to have a group of them flying close to our farmhouse each and every day. Talk about being lucky - I still remember it like it was yesterday.
There was a 'Kite' person who would visit to see the Kites every so often to see if they where okay. We where told never to disclose to anyone where the kites where. All I can say that it was close to Callander, mind you it was such a long time ago now - the Kites might be living in another area now.
It would be interesting to know if they are still there or not?

Hi Kathy and Dave,
The birds you mention would be the Argaty Kites. Still very much there and well worth a visit!
