November 27th. Clear blue sky, time to visit the reservoir I think.
I wrapped up in a few layers and headed out for my regular, favourite walk, the car was showing 1Deg, a wee bit chilly but a stunner of a morning.
No cars in the car park! Bonus.
Maybe I've beaten the dog walkers?
So I walked up the water side, saw a good few wee birds but not another soul, it was serene.
I got a nice surprise at the picnic bench, a pair of Red Kites soaring low over the tree tops, must have their eyes on something.
The only unusual thing about this sighting was the pair, I've only ever seen one on its own up here before.
All the way to the second gate (again) before something caught my eye up on the hillside, in the tree line. There was a forestry vehicle working up there.
A quick glimpse and three or four dodgy shots as they cruised along the tree line. Buzzards? Probably.
They disappeared over the treetops but I kept an eye up that way as I scanned the birds down on the water.
Then this happened.
They cleared the trees and soared higher, obviously together. I had wondered if they were those Kites again but, no! White-tailed eagles! I think I swore as I realised!
Coming from the same area as I'd had my close encounter a few weeks ago. I watched and photographed them as they cruised further and further away, heading into the hills and mountains.
And that was that. I was pretty stunned to see them and I'm fairly sure they must be the same two birds, I've no way of knowing but, from the same area? Staying together, like they did?
Had to be.
It felt like a long time when I was standing there; it was 6 minutes!
Doesn't time fly when you're enjoying yourself?
Very nice set of pics. Have yet to see one.
I count my self very lucky William, it's been amazing to see them at all
Isn't it fab when you spot something unexpected Saw a couple last year when we were on hols on the Slate Isles, yet to see the two down here that live in Poole Harbour though!
Isn't it just PB? Love it. The kites were enough up until this hoping you see them soon
