Half term success of 3 new species!

Compared to the Christmas holidays, which I got two new species in (Goosander and Rook), February was great, with three new birds in just one week!

The first was the Smew at Stocker's Lake, which I would consider my first 'rare' British bird, like Jack Snipe or Merlin. For me, a rare bird is whatever the Herts Bird Club writes in red font on the species archive. Anyway, there has been a Smew drake on the lake which has attracted many birders. I got some decent photos and was very happy. Secondly, on that same day, I saw my first Goldeneyes. Thirdly, I went to Wood Oaks Farm and saw my first Linnets, along with a female kestrel. I also saw Pochard, Greylag, Common Gull and Little Egret. A great week!   I also wanted to ask if anyone wanted to join my website. Its called the Under 18's Birding Club, but is available to all ages. It contains a blog, gallery and fun activities. The link is here: under-18-birding-club.uk
