Wigtown,Wood of Cree and Glentrool

Just back for weekend camping at the above. It looked so promising on Friday night when we left but we had rain hail wind and frost. Had our first cuckoo and Whitethroats of the year in the campsite.

Saturday morning we went to Wigtown Local Nature Reserve, first Swifts of the year and we had three Garganey ducks, two drakes, think they;d been there for a few days. Stunners, showing well. Our first duckoings of the year, a brood of 11 and one of 7.  At Bruces stone in the afternoon, it became very wet, but we had nice views of Nuthatches and Treecreepers and Tree pippits and GSpotted woodpeckers.  All the time cuckoos and Willow Warblers were calling also Sedge Warblers

Sunday morning we were at Wood o Cree for 6am hoping for Redstart. Dipped on those but had Pied Flycatcvher. About 8.30 we went back to the car for breakfast, then went back into the wood for another couple of hours but still no Redstart. Good views of a Dipper, dipping anc running along the bottom of the river.  Never got Woodwarbler but talking to another birder he had them there late afternoon

After lunch we went back to Bruces Stone and walked the Loch Trool Trail.

Great weekend. Stunning scenery lots of birds (only mentioned a few) and as for the weather? well. it was a bank holiday, the beginning of May and SW Scotland, we really shouldn't have expected anything more. Could have done without the frost last night though.

All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.
