Rainham Marshes

Hi

Has anyone here been to RSPB Rainham Marshes ?

Is it any good for photography ?

Thanks

Jane

  • Hi Kobie

I must admit I've not been to Rainham Marshes with my camera, but judging by the photographs posted on the gallery of the Rainham Marshes group, it certainly looks like you will be able to get some good shots of the wildlife there.

  • Hi Lucinda

Thanks for that information, I think I may pay a visit this weekend if the weather stays dry !

  • Hi Kobie,

Just to say I live less than half an hour away from Rainham Marshes but am ashamed to admit i have never been. It is my next planned Reserve visit though.

I know it has been raining unfortunately this weekend but can you let me know if you did make it or not, and if so, what you thought. It would be much appreciated if you could.

    Thank you.

    Regards

    Steve

    I won't be happy until I've got a penguin down :)

  • Hi Steve

We went to Rainham Marshes yesterday and had a lovely day.We went as photographers not birdwatchers so we didnt have binoculars or scopes.

Got some great shots of various warblers, saw a few water voles, an egret.

    I would recommend it.

The signposting from the M25 was not very good so make sure you know where to go.

Make sure you try the home made cakes !

  • I live a short drive from Rainham Marshes and absolutely fell in love with the place the first time I visited. You can get some great shots of the wildlife given a bit of patience. I also love the fact that you can observe a wide variety of birds, due to it's location you are spoilt for choice. Both my children have been and they loved the birdwatchers walk especially tailored for little ones. They offer a wide variety of different walks that both adults and children alike can participate in. The cafe is great and I admit to having had the odd one or two (honestly !!!) of the homemade cakes. Am unable to visit the reserve now but it was lovely whilst it lasted.

  • Hi Kobie/Lynette,

Thank you both for your comments.

I think you've both helped me make up my mind to go now (although the decision wasn't difficult!). It does sound as if there will be plenty to see and do so now I can't wait actually. :) Even if it is just to try the now infamous homemade cakes. :)

    Thanks again for the advice.

    Regards

    Steve

CAKE..there was CAKE.... was the cake signposted..?

Glad you had a good day, your lucky to have an RSPB Reserve near enough to visit, my nearest one is several motorways and over an hour away, and someone burnt down the visitor centre a few weeks ago. :-(

    So this cake.......

We live in Surrey and it took us about an hour (crossing the dartford tunnel ) but it was well worth it
