Only saw it for a few seconds flying over a field as I drove past, but I was surprised to see a red kite along the road that cuts through from the A1 to Oakham, via Rutland Water. I didn't think we had them round here.
Fineshade Woods South of Rutland Water is packed with them. Hence the RSPB watching area & Shop.
Where I am in Leicester they where seen here a few times quite recently, over Watermead country Park area I believe.
This was on the north shore. In fact, I think it was north east of the water. I thought, "That's a big buzzard, flying rather low - unusual wing movement... oh, look at the long tail with a V in the end!" Then I had past it. Magnificent birds. I've only seen them along the M40 corridor before.
